Stemma bipartito da linea orizzontale; in alto aquila imperiale araldica ad ali aperte e lingua dardeggiante dal becco. In basso un globetto (palla, nella terminologia araldica) R/ DOMINE SALVA VIGILANTES. Una piccola caravella, con vela quadrata gonfiata dal vento, naviga acque in tempesta (il Lario, ma idealmente il mare) condotta in coperta da un nocchiero in nudita’ eroica (il Medeghino stesso) volto a destra, che regge la barra del timone. Il soprannome di ”Medeghino”, col significato di piccolo medico (Medici) deriva dal dialetto lombardo ma Gian Giacomo non aveva nessun legame di parentela con la potente famiglia fiorentina i cui antenati pare esercitassero l’arte medica. Anche lo stemma di Musso con un solo globetto (palla) dà ragione al rango minore ,diciamo cosi, del suo casato, Medici di Nosiggia (dal nome di una chiesa di Milano, San Martino di Nosiggia ora scomparsa ).
L’essere stato poi il fratello del papa Pio IV (Giovannangelo Medici 1559-65 ) e l’aver dato, come capitano di ventura , man forte a Cosimo I de’ Medici nella sua guerra contro Siena, gli consenti, più tardi, di fregiarsi nel blasone dello stemma a sei palle emblematico della famiglia di Firenze cosi’ come aveva gia’ fatto il Pontefice.
A quell’epoca,anche per i successi militari riportati al soldo dell’imperatore Carlo V, il piccolo feudo di Musso aveva lasciato posto al piu’consistente marchesato di Marignano (Melegnano ) avuto come riconoscimento.
La piccola caravella del rovescio è chiamata Andalucia per via della vela quadrata (etimologia portoghese -ispanica) e corregge il termine finora usato di brigantino, veliero a due di alberi di stazza maggiore.
Infine il motto di famiglia :DOMINE SALVA VIGILANTES,presente al rovescio della moneta da cui e’ derivato il cantico di Simeone nel culto evangelico SALVA NOS DOMINE VIGILANTES CUSTODI NOS DORMIENTES UT VIGILEMUS CUM CHRISTO, ET REQUIESCAMUS IN PACE (Nella veglia salvaci o Signore, nel sonno non ci abbandonare il cuore vegli con Cristo, il corpo riposi in pace)

Simeone ,è un vecchio ebreo che nel vangelo di Luca citato sopra chiede congedo a Dio perche ha potuto vedere il Cristo nell’episodio della presentazione al tempio, NUNC DIMITTIS SERVUM TUUM, Signore ora congeda il tuo servo.
Il motto evangelico nel contesto della monetazione di Gian Giacomo de’ Medici si riferisce al suo ruolo di vigile sentinella del Marchesato di Musso esercitato con una piccola flotta di vascelli sul lago di Lecco-Como.
Nel castello di Melegnano esistono vari affreschi che raffigurano Gian Giacomo come è riportato in due delle sue monete,il testone con ritratto e nel nostro caso il grosso.
